Definition: Cellulitis is a spreading bacterial infection just below the skin surface. It is most commonly caused by Streptococcus pyogenes or Staphylococcus aureus.
Case Study: Late in 2016 I had a patient present after having just been treated for Cellulitis of the lower right hand leg. He had been warned that if the strongest antibiotics available didn’t work there was a chance he could loose his leg if the infection spread or got worse. The image on the left shows the discolouration of the skin post infection and the image on the right shows the leg now (19/4/2017) after MLD (Manual Lymphatic Drainage), compression stockings (Mediven for men) and a good regime of skin care and exercise.
